Online Giving Information

INTRODUCING A NEW WAY TO GIVE: ONLINE GIVING

In today’s society, cash and checks are becoming more obsolete and automatic payments are often the preferred methods of payment. Many parishes (and charities) across the country are adapting payment practices to meet these ever changing needs.

At St. Mark’s, we are rolling out a new option to provide greater flexibility and convenience for your thoughtful stewardship.  In addition to our options of paying by cash and check, you can now also donate through the website for a one-time donation or set up an automatic payment via your checking account (ACH/EFT) or credit card (Amex, Visa, MasterCard, Discover) where your donation can be automated each week.

Online donations are set up through a third party financial services firm.  Your information is entered using a PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant website.  This provides the highest level of security available.  When you click on the Online Giving button, your session opens a secure website to complete the registration process.

Is St. Mark’s the only parish in the Diocese providing automated giving services?

St. Mark’s is catching up with most large parishes in the Diocese that have had automated giving programs available to their parishioners for several years.

How can I be assured I get proper credit for tax purposes?

Your donations will still be recorded in the parish data system so that we can provide annual reports of your contributions.  This information will come from your name and address.  Your envelope number, if entered, also serves as an “account number” which we use to track your donations.

If I set up automatic payments, can I make changes?

Yes. You can make changes whenever you wish.  You may start or stop, change the dollar amount and/or the date of payment.   However, the benefit of the program is for ease and consistency so you don’t need to do this often.

I get paid on the 15th and the 30th of the month. Is there a way to add a provision for twice monthly giving?

Yes.  You can donate twice monthly by setting up two recurring donations with different dates.  For example, you could set up one recurring donation that deducts on the 15th and a second recurring donation that is deducted on the 30th to match your pay cycle.

What should I do with the envelopes?

Online Donation compliments the envelope program though once you sign up there will be less of a need for envelopes.  You will have the option to use envelopes or Online Donation.  For instance, you may choose to make your regular offering an automated donation and use envelopes for the 2nd collection.  If you sign up for online giving we will stop mailing envelopes to you but they will still be available in church.

Is there a fee for participating?

There is no direct cost to you for participating.  The cost to the church is a % of your donation to the parish. The charges are 1% for an e-check/debit and 3% for credit cards.  Savings from envelope printing and mailing will offset this cost.

When will my contribution be deducted from my account?

Your electronic contribution will be debited on the date you specify on the donation form.

If I do not write checks, how do I keep my checkbook balance straight?

Since your contribution is made at a pre-established time, you simply record it in your check register on the appropriate date. Electronic contributions are recorded for you on your bank statement as well as your online reports.  It should appear as a payment to St. Mark’s Church.

What if I change bank accounts or credit cards?
